Each month we will have a an idea share on a different topic.
This month the question is:
What kind of batting do you use in your quilts and why? Please leave a comment or a post telling what you know about this topic so that we can all learn from each other! I will also try to find a few links to help us learn even more. Everyone who participates will be entered to win a prize at the next quilt guild!! If you have any other ideas for idea share topics leave that in a comment too!

  1. I was just reading about this on the Piece and quilt blog yesterday. She said she has tried everything and found this quilter's dream and loves it. I have tried a bunch of kinds as well and really prefer a blend. I like the 80/20, but I am still worried about it shrinking a little. I like poly blends because they are warmer to me. I am always cold, so anytime I can get extra heat, I like it. The lady who taught me to love quilting always used the 80/20, but I am still in search of the perfect batting. I hope someone can solve the problem.
    Put me in the drawing!

  2. I like cheap batting... just kidding. It depends on the quilt. If it is something I want to look old-fashioned, I like 80/20 or cotton so it gets that crinkly look after washing and drying. I usually just use a poly blend, though. I don't give it very much thought...maybe I'll think about it some more. Quilting is just so darn expensive, I like to buy stuff on sale or with a coupon when I can.

  3. I use mostly 80/20; however, I also use Warm and Natural or Warm and White 100% cotton if I want the old-fashioned, slightly puckery look after washing. For hand quilting I use Hobbs. I don't know which brands are best, and would like comments on that.

  4. I like to use Warm and Natural or Warm and White batting as well. I love the way the quilts lay, and look after washing.

  5. I use warm and natural for machine quilting, or an 80/20 blend. I once (I repeat ONCE) used warm and natural to hand quilt and never again. It is hard to push the needle through. It is kind of like pushing a push lawnmower through very long grass! I always use Hobbs 80/20 for hand quilting. I hope everyone is having a good quilting month. See you next month at guild.

  6. I use 80/20 I like how the flat batts show off the piecing. Like Linda i used warm and natural but with quilting spray to hold it together while I quilted it. I couldn't hand quilt one stitch and have never finished the quilt. I thought it was the spray. I have no experience with what kind of batt do I like to sleep with. I'm like the shoemaker with barefoot kids, I've never had a quilt on my bed that I've made.

  7. Now that I have been using the bamboo bat for about 3 weeks. The reasons I do not like it. If I brush against it, it's on my clothing. I'm rolling as I go. For this same reason I constantly worry about damaging the bat. So for the first hafe of the row I slide the right side of the bat to the left and cover it with paper. The paper instruction that came with the bat. When I do the opposite side I reverse placement of the paper. Anyway I have to do all I can to avoid touching the bat and causing damage, be gentle.
