Linda Bringhurst taught us how to do an invisible Machine applique technique. She started by showing us some quilts that have used this method.

Machine Appliqué
Supplies
• Freezer paper
• Invisible thread
• Thread to match background
• Glue stick (clear/non-acid/non-permanent)
Stitch
• zig zag
or
• blind hem
Set your sewing machine to a close stitch length and have the stitch width set to just barely catch the fabric of your appliqué piece.
Steps
1. Trace appliqué pattern onto freezer paper and cut freezer paper pattern out on cutting line.
2. Iron freezer paper template onto the wrong side of your appliqué fabric.
3. Cut out your fabric appliqué with a 1/8 inch seam allowance to turn under.
4. Turn under the seam allowance and glue to freezer paper. (be careful to make smooth edges)
5. Stitch around the edge of your appliqué (pay close attention to points and valleys)
6. After your appliqué is completed, trim background fabric away leaving your 1/4 inch seam allowance.
7. Gently remove your freezer paper template from the back of the appliqué. On very small appliqué pieces (dots) leave the paper in.
8. Press your appliqué from the wrong side of quilt.

One hint that she added was to tighten the tension on your bobbin thread a little bit.
Pam also shared with us a tool that she learned about in an applique class. The black area is sand paper so that your applique piece will stay in place while you are working with it. It can be ordered from Piper's Quilts.

Block of the Month

My disclaimer: I did not remember to take pictures of both star blocks. I'm sorry! I'll go in later this week and take a picture of the other one. Shanda and Carolyn are really both much better organized than I am and if they hadn't gone off on a fabulous quilty weekend adventure, there would be better pictures...
And here's the beginner block. The finished one wasn't there, so this is the sample laid out so that you can see the colors.

I hope she doesn't mind...

but I'm posting these darling quilts Joleen made. They are for her sister-in-laws twin baby girls who will arrive any day now. The print is pink and purple lady bugs. Joleen pieced and quilted these herself! Way to go!

Block of the Month
Melissa was the winner of the Flower block of the month. Congratulations Melissa!

Cindy and Hollie suggested that we do a block exchange. They showed a few quilts that they thought might good for this. The guild members chose the Road to Oklahoma quilt. Cindy will make up instructions to give out next month and they will plan on it lasting for three months.

This year we will be putting together a committee to be in charge of Snow Goose. Anyone interested let Ann know.
